Preparing for Your Tattoo Appointment

Preparing properly for your tattoo appointment helps ensure the best possible experience and result. Being well-rested, hydrated, and comfortable will make the session easier for both you and your artist.

Below are a few simple guidelines to help you prepare for your tattoo appointment at Elysium Tattoo.

Get a Good Night’s Sleep

Try to get a full night’s sleep before your appointment. Being well-rested will help you feel more comfortable during the tattoo and can make the experience much easier.

Fatigue can also make you more sensitive to discomfort.

Eat Before Your Appointment

Always eat a proper meal before arriving for your tattoo.

Tattooing can cause a drop in blood sugar, especially during longer sessions. Eating beforehand helps prevent dizziness and ensures you feel comfortable throughout the appointment.

You are welcome to bring snacks and drinks to your appointment - we particularly recommend this for longer sessions.

Stay Hydrated

Drink plenty of water in the 24 hours leading up to your appointment.

Well-hydrated skin tends to take ink better and heal more easily.

Avoid Alcohol and Drugs

Please avoid drinking alcohol for at least 24 hours before your appointment - alcohol thins the blood, which can cause excessive bleeding and make tattooing more difficult.

Clients who appear intoxicated will not be tattooed.

Moisturise Your Skin

Keeping your skin moisturised in the days leading up to your appointment can help it remain healthy and hydrated.

Avoid moisturising on the day of your appointment unless instructed otherwise.

Avoid Sunburn

Please avoid sunburn in the area being tattooed.

Sunburned skin cannot be tattooed safely, and this may require rescheduling your appointment.

Wear Comfortable Clothing

Wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the area being tattooed.

For example:

  • If you are getting a thigh tattoo, wear shorts or loose trousers

  • For shoulder or upper arm tattoos, wear a vest or loose top

Comfortable clothing will help you relax during your appointment.

Shaving the Area

Your artist will shave and prepare the skin before tattooing if necessary.

Please avoid shaving the area yourself immediately beforehand, as this can cause irritation.

Bring What You Need

For longer appointments you may want to bring:

  • snacks

  • a drink

  • headphones or entertainment

  • comfortable clothing

We want you to feel relaxed during your session.

Arriving for Your Appointment

Please arrive on time for your appointment.

If you are running late, let the studio know as soon as possible.

This helps ensure the day runs smoothly for both clients and artists.

Questions Before Your Tattoo

If you have any questions before your appointment, feel free to contact your artist or the studio.

We’re always happy to help make sure you feel fully prepared and comfortable before your tattoo session.
